You know what Hunk doesn't like? Being abducted into space on a mission to save worlds. What just happened? He was abducted into space in order to save worlds.
This isn't all true, though. Saving people? Feels great. Freeing the oppressed, helping the hungry and homeless. Bringing peace to wartorn lands? Hunk lives to see the aftermath of that.
Just the whole lead up to it is a lot and he's sure someone else could do it much better. But that doesn't stop his situation now! A boy in a purple hoodie on unsteady feet, suddenly transported from his comfortable room, new after his old home was destroyed in the Galra invasion of Earth. See? Nice new room. And now he's here in a cold, wet, depressing, and slightly creepy place? Come on! Not cool, universe. Not cool.
"Um... Hello? Can someone give me directions to a communications device. Or somewhere not here? Please. This isn't my favorite thing."
The Train
Hunk doesn't have a whole lot of choices in being here, does he? Well, okay. It's a lot? But he can handle a lot. He guesses if people still need him. But he'd love to be back home with his family. Wouldn't everyone, though?
He first checks out his cabin, his name plastered to the side of L3:B. It's... small. Way smaller than his room on the castle of lions. Where is he even supposed to put his nerd stuff? He guesses the journey home in the lions was just as cramped and didn't even have a mattress. But it's still a little disappointing. Oh well.
What's nice though? They're not serving goo. The vegetables are top quality, the kitchen has decent cooking tools and a pretty good oven, he is already going through the recipe cards with light in his eyes. "Oh man, even if this ends up some kind of alien pineapple, if it's convincing? I'll embrace it. And look at all this stuff. I could do a different meal almost every day of the month! It was always really rough to get good ingredients in space."
The lab car is also pretty amazing. He wanders around it, taking stock of supplies, gently eyeballing other people's inventions and knowing better than to touch but these look so cool. Okay, there are a lot of high points that he sees already. "Wow, everyone here's been really busy, huh? What type of materials do we have access to here?"
Train Take-Off
Okay, now that he has already 'settled'... kind of... he's ready to experience this whole 'wait for the train to take off' thing. And you know what? It's terrible. He didn't predict it would be so terrible. He had a tender stomach that got used to some pretty severe space combat. Motion sickness that often caused disaster for whatever enclosed area he was in. Stress-related intestinal issues that made that girthy belly of his become an orchestra.
But you know what? The train made this choice. It's gotta deal with him. And he might have moved beyond the point of throwing up at the way it speeds up? He comes damn close to revisiting it as a wash of brilliant colors slide past the window in luxurious nauseating patterns.
"Please tell me there's some kind of void Dramamine in the medical car? Space tums? I was not fully prepared for a train to travel with- nng..." hold on, he has to center himself, swallow. We good? ....Okay we're good. "Travel on literal nightmare fuel. I mean that out there causes bad dreams and hallucinations, right? Literal. Nightmare. Fuel."
Character: Hunk About them: Cabin L3:B Hunk is a paladin of Voltron, pilot of the yellow lion and guardian of Earth. He's definitely in the reluctant savior category, not wanting to have been chosen but answering the call because he likes to make people happy and will be doing much the same here. He loves to cook, and food and engineering are his two biggest talents. He's got experience saving planets and just climbed out of an intergalactic war with a warrior race run by ancient corrupted tyrants. Plans: I just want to get him settled. I'm not particularly out to make enemies for him since he's pretty soft-hearted. I mostly want to make him some friends and maybe give him some projects that he'll believe in that he can invest in. That'll go a long way to getting him settled in. CR wanted: Any of the above. People who do science. People who are nerds. People who do high fantasy magic. People who like to make food. People that can put up with puns. Things to avoid: Anything particularly outwardly malicious. He's new and soft and I want to take it easy on him.
Character: Yondu About them: Cabin UD2:B Yondu's been around on the train for a while. He's put the souls of his crew to rest and during the last event he found out that his people commemorated him, which he didn't expect but he's glad to know. He didn't get in contact with anyone, though.
Now he's even more concerned about what's going to happen to them all. He's been trying to help people find out information on the Ministry and the Void to the best of his ability, as well as find resources that aren't Ministry specific. Plans: He's getting a Celebi named Twig that he'll be trying to get used to having around. I need to have him talk more to T'Challa to find out what happened in his universe (since he finally admitted to Vegeta that he has an AU son around and needs advice). He's going to be helping Vegeta out with his own monkeyshine thing. Mid-month or so he's going to be asking people that have been around for a while about dreams they had early on, prior to his time, so he can make a compilation of themes and present them to some useful NPC or another in full "What the hell is all of this?!" glory. CR wanted: He gets a little catty but he's a team player, and definitely wants to work towards a common goal. So people he can get behind or work alongside are both wonderful. If your character needs fatherly/mentor protecting or "are ya winnin' son" encouragement, he's also your guy. Things to avoid: The usual. I don't like disabling/letting other people control his arrow or doing mind-control unless it's discussed a lot beforehand.
PURPLE and ORANGE: Hunk had, for the most part, been on herb work since usually mixing ingredients was his jam. But the moment someone told him that the chicks weren't faring so well, and he saw how upset the parents were, he decided to refocus his efforts on protecting the nests.
He's been out finding chicks and returning them, or joining others in their efforts. He probably, for the moment, doesn't look like the type of guy that could provide adequate protection, and he certainly has his bumbling moments. He's even been trying to make casual conversation about the mission and the culture of the place as they walk.
They're interupted by a huge voidblob that rolls into their path. It's then that Hunk pulls out the disc he's carried around since the beginning of the mission (his bayard) from the back of his belt and it forms into a massive energy gun about as long as he is tall. "Get behind me!"
a siren song
RED: Hunk's had no experience with the void tears or any of the void's effects outside of the sickness, thanks to his blessed newness. He has, however, felt subconcious pulls and resisted powers drawing him like a lure. He's gotten better about it, smarter, the effect is easier to recognize. All that experience does ground him, the past memories of having to be the voice of reason to keep friends from being lured in.
That said, that was always a monster or a psychic influence. A rip in space time or... or whatever the void is? That's a little intimidating.
He gulps hard as he looks at tear, trying to swallow swelling apprehension, following it with a deep breath and sigh. "Okay... Okay... I got this... sort of. Who am I kidding? I have no idea how to do this."
WILDCARD
[For whatever other antics. I'll take action or prose.]
[The cafes have been great. Being able to go in and sit with a new friend and enjoy your meal while it munches on a poffin? That's been the best part of randomly showing up in a new world, as those 'randomly hijacked to a new life and new job in a new world' experiences tend to go.]
[Which people shouldn't really have a whole lot of experience with that. But it seems like a lot of people here do? Which it's nice to have shared experiences but sheesh. Anyway...]
[The very best part, though, is helping out and there's a lot of that needed around here. Some of these pokemon have had a really tough time, and when Hunk sees a rescue party out trying to find an especially skittish stray with bad experiences that ran away from the shelter where it had been living and into danger he feels the need to join in. You've just got to, right?]
[He probably should have checked what a Geodude looked like before he set out in search of someone's wayward pokemon. He just gets caught up in the ferver of calling out 'Charlie' and hoping something comes out of the bushes. He's got a big heart and a strong mind he's just a little overeager sometimes. He's got the spirit. But it does mean that in the middle of shouting another-] Charlie! [-and some big round thing with beefy arms flees across the road, he shrieks in a not-exactly comforting fashion.]
[He's learned there are all kinds of ways for animals and people and everything to look by now. Just... you know... sometimes you expect legs and there are no legs!]
[So now there's Hunk at the edge of Lavendar town, crouching down and trying to sweet talk a rock monster out from under a porch that he has no idea how it even managed to fit itself under.] Come on, big fella! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I got a great poffin recipe to try out. You could be my first taste tester! That sounds pretty great, right? ...Someone help me out here.
MOO MOO FARM - OBLIGATORY KALTENECKER JOKE
[Hunk's decided to do a food run with some friends, and he's excited for it! Fresh ingredients, a bit of travel, a road trip across beautiful country. But he's pretty dependent on other people for rides since none of his pokemon are of significant useful size. They're all still pretty small and growth is slow going because he's not been eager to battle them.]
[They're just cute babies, right! It's sad to see the cute babies fight. Sometimes they really seem to want to, though, and then he lets them.]
Do you think I need a Miltank? I think I need a Miltank. How much do they even cost here?
[Because he would happily buy an egg and love it and raise it and yes, even battle it if it wanted. Just because in this new life he's briefly been committed to? It would be best to have access to sour cream and milkshakes at a moment's notice. One needs to pre-emptively prevent culinary disasters. Speaking of which.]
Okay. So there are plant-like pokemon. If there are vegans in this world, is the rule that it can't be a pokemon? Or that it can't be meat? Would they drink soy milk if it came from some kind of theoretically plant-type Miltank? What are the food rules here? This is crucial, need to know high priority information that I... for some reason did not think to ask until just now. My bad.
Hi. So. I'm Hunk. And I need help figuring out how to wake up. [Yup, he's going to be one of those people, utterly convinced that this is some flash back to school days dream except that it's an open woods adventure and he's not yet looked down to discover his pants missing. Which, believe him, he's been checking.]
[He's holding a little Nidoran under around her midsection and she's just kind of ragdolling in his arms rather than causing any sort of disruption, content to be carried.]
I left this one lady's house. And I mean, she seemed really nice. I think she's my new dream mom or something? And I traveled a while and just tried to enjoy it. Anyway, I need to wake up because this dream is a little too real and I really don't want it turning into a nightmare on me. It's fine so far, but, you know. Never know what that curry I had yesterday ['real world' yesterday] will do to me.
[He's obviously already made it to Cherrygrove, there is ocean backdrop happening, so he's been walking for a few days. He just wrote it all off as dream time. It's now starting to be a concern.]
Hi, so... Quick question. I'm thinking of collecting recipes from different places and making a restaurant somewhere. So what are the foods people miss from home? Have you found something almost like them? What's your favorite dish in some of the big cities?
And like... do any of you have cures for motion sickness or indigestion from riding flying pokemon 'cause it doesn't matter how much space experience I have, my gastrointestinal tract has never wanted a part of any adventure on any plane of existence. If there's a noncorporeal plane to visit? I guarantee I'd find a way to feel sick on it on the first hard right turn.
[Mostly he's learned to just cope and ignore it but not dealing with it at all would be nice.]
ACTION - CLOSED TO LUISA
[He's made a few friends over the network, but he's not left the Sevii Islands very much. He likes it there, it reminds him a lot of where he grew up, but he does know he needs to get out more. Even if it means he needs to hitch rides more.]
[He's walking around with a Nidorina in tow, (though she's shambling considerably slower than him). A box of poffins in one hand and a lunch for Luisa even if he probably should have asked her what she liked first. He's got his gear out, looking over the directions to the meeting place with a confused squint.]
[Goldenrod is a great place to learn people's preferences, and he's been going to all the mom and pop diners to pick up recipes. Today is a break, though, and even if catching Pokemon hasn't been his top priority he realizes that he should probably, you know, do that.]
[But he's already enthralled with an adorable Jigglypuff even without the singing. In a little shrubby bit near the outskirts of the city, a giant guy can be found cooing over an especially small Jigglypuff. It doesn't matter if he's seen them before, it's still adorable.]
How are these real?! Look at her! They're like marshmallows personified! I need to name a desert after her.
[His heart hurts just looking at it. And the Jigglypuff, for being wild, seems to have no problem being stared at.]
Sevii Islands - OTA
[When he's back on Sevii Island Four, he has a different experience. There's a frantic Hunk running down the beach chased by a wild Tentacruel. He's trying to fumble to get his pokeballs out, as he'd left Shay at Voltron house to keep an eye on things.]
Oh great! Can't I just have a normal walk on the beach without being chased by a tentacle monster!
[Come one come on! Which one is his Cherrim! A high level Cherrim can handle this, right?]
Being a good Bro - Closed to Allura
[After his talk with Marik, he decides to speak with Allura. He's come back to check on Keith, really. But it's better if he has this particularly private conversation with his friend. Marik had trusted him with a lot, and... well, he doesn't want to lead to the guy's first big heartbreak. He's going out on a limb to Hunk.]
[And, well, he wants to help. He saw Lance pine for Allura for forever. He saw how happy he was with Pidge here. He's seen Shiro finally look settled in speaking with someone. He doesn't want to ruin that.]
[It's training on the beach where he finds her (after his Tentacruel adventure), this time with a doodling dusk type Cherrim by his side, and he approaches. And most importantly? Not in the house where Fluttershy might hear.]
Hey, Allura! I could use your help with something if you have a minute. You know. When that fight is over. Go head, I'll be waiting.
Special Days for Special Friends - Closed to Luisa
[Hunk feels a little guilty. He's enjoyed Luisa's company but also he kind of stuck to his familiar friends when Lance and Pidge left. Really, it would have been healthier to surround himself with kind faces, to reach out and try to find camaraderie.]
[But he was kind of mourning, facing being in a new place alone, upset that he didn't get to know their new lives as much as he'd like. And also facing the fact that, while he didn't find her 'hot', he'd had feelings for his old friend...]
[You know what? None of that matters right now. He'd been a little neglectful of his friends here, and he should make up for it. So he messages Luisa directly-]
Hey, I made you something and got you a present! Are you busy? Can I meet you somewhere in Goldenrod? I've been staying there while setting up my food cart.

But it's also great- he's glad to help him out with the Cyclizar thing. And he wants his friends to have as much happiness and romantic luck as possible. Things seem to be going pretty well with Fluttershy (he's not been intrusive about it, but it just seems that way).]

He doesn't want to throw them away, they're all related to planets that the Voltron crew visited and seem like nice reminders of past adventures.]
